![]() On August 12th, 1960, the Vauban citadel was sold by the "Administration des Domaines" to Mr et Mrs Larquetoux. It is the beginning of the renaissance for this citadel which, gradually, will get out from its ruins. During the next 40 years, the owners will do a huge work to restore the site. Today, the work is still under progress. The Vauban Citadel is a magnificent and imposing site, witness of the history of Belle-Ile and of the History of France. Since March 31st 2005, the Citadel is owned by a hotel industry Group (Groupe des Hôtels Particuliers). The new owners opened a hotel in the "Grand Quartier" and a restaurant in the Residence of the Governor. The art and history Museum of Belle-Ile has been preserved and cultural activities (exhibition, play, conference, concert, etc.) continue to be organized in this Citadel.
